Dr. Alfons Martinell, Co-Director of the UNESCO Pau Casals Chair, Receives the 2024 Gold Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts
Dr. Alfons Martinell, Co-Director of the Pau Casals UNESCO Chair, has been awarded the 2024 Gold Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts by the Council of Ministers.
The official award ceremony for the Gold Medals for Merit in the Fine Arts, held in Toledo, brought together prominent figures from the cultural world, including Dr. Martinell, who was honored for his outstanding career and significant contribution to the field of culture, particularly in the area of cultural rights.
This distinction, granted by the Ministry of Culture, recognizes individuals and organizations that have made notable contributions to artistic and cultural creation, as well as those who have significantly promoted, developed and disseminated art and culture, or contributed to the preservation of artistic heritage.
Throughout his career, Dr. Alfons Martinell has played a key role both nationally and internationally in the cultural sphere. His work leading the Pau Casals UNESCO Chair reflects a strong commitment to promoting the universal values defended by Pau Casals — such as peace, solidarity and human rights — through music and culture.
