3rd Conference: Educating in Human Rights for Peace

Pati Manning (CERC de la Diputació de Barcelona)
The 3rd Conference of the Pau Casals UNESCO Chair, “Educating in Human Rights for Peace”, is framed within the humanistic and musical legacy of an artist committed to his time through his lifelong advocacy for human rights and peace. It aims to provide a space for reflection on the role of music in intercultural dialogue and on the institutions that defend human rights and multilateralism for a better world. Its main objective is to analyse the relationships and interdependencies between peace education and cultural rights education.
Cultural rights are among the least explored areas within the human rights family. The role of culture in fostering dialogue in diverse and plural societies has become an essential priority, as coexistence can be affected by situations of conflict in which the right of every person to participate in cultural life and respect for their identities are essential.
The conference is free of charge and will begin at 9:45 a.m. It will feature contributions from Jazmín Beirak, Director General for Cultural Rights at the Spanish Ministry of Culture; Marina Caireta, researcher and trainer in peace education at the School for a Culture of Peace; Beatriz Barreiro, PhD in Human Rights and Associate Professor of Public International Law and International Relations at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos; Maider Maraña, Director of the Baketik Foundation and international consultant on cultural rights and public policy; Jordi Font Agulló, curator of the exhibition at El Born “Why War?”, Director of the Democratic Memorial, and cultural manager, among others. Please consult the full programme for the complete list of participants.
You may attend the full day or only selected round tables.
