Opened the Fourth Call for Research Grants of the Pau Casals UNESCO Chair
The Pau Casals UNESCO Chair has launched its fourth call for research grants with the aim of promoting research on the musical and humanistic legacy of Pau Casals. Interested applicants may submit their applications until 12 April 2026.
This year, the call is part of the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Pau Casals.
Research grants with a financial endowment of €2,000
Each grant provides a financial endowment of €2,000, as well as support and guidance from a committee of experts. Grant recipients will also have access to the Pau Casals Collection, held at the National Archive of Catalonia, and to other resources linked to the Chair.
Research projects may focus on the figure and musical or humanistic legacy of Pau Casals, but they may also address other topics such as human rights, a culture of peace, international social justice, and the role of music in social cohesion and conflict prevention. This call focuses on the values Pau Casals defended throughout his life, in line with the 2030 Sustainable Development Strategy.
Call open to students and researchers worldwide
The grants are open to students and researchers from all over the world. Research projects may be submitted in connection with bachelor’s, master’s, postgraduate or doctoral theses, or other research related to the objectives of this call, framed within a prior academic research trajectory.
Key dates of the call
- Opening of the call: 2 February 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
- Application deadline: 12 April 2026, until 11:59 p.m.
- Decision of the selection committee: before 11 May 2026
- Deadline for submission of the final research project: before 2 May 2027
About the Pau Casals UNESCO Chair
The Pau Casals UNESCO Chair is an initiative created in 2022 through an agreement between the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) and the Pau Casals Foundation, with the aim of promoting research and dissemination of Pau Casals’ legacy and the values he upheld throughout his life. The Chair fosters the commitment of music and culture to today’s major social challenges, supporting research on the role of music in intercultural dialogue and the defense of human rights and multilateralism.
